Glossary of technical terms relating to sealants, adhesives and coatings
Ein Glossar hilft dabei, Fachbegriffe rund um Dichtstoffe, Klebstoffe und Beschichtungen besser zu verstehen. Gerade wenn man kein Experte in der Bauchemie ist, kann es schwierig sein, die Details zu durchschauen. Dieses Glossar bietet eine einfache, leicht verständliche Erklärung der wichtigsten Begriffe – damit jeder versteht, wie SCIBO Chemie -Produkte funktionieren und welche Vorteile sie bieten.
SCIBO SEAL - Sealants:
- Joint sealant A material used to fill and seal joints between two building components to prevent air, water or other substances from penetrating.
- Expansion joint A joint that is designed to absorb movements between components. These movements can be caused by temperature changes or subsidence. A flexible joint sealant is important here.
- MS sealants (SCIBO SEAL MS) MS sealants are formulated on the basis of modified silane polymers. They offer the advantages of silicones and polyurethanes, are free from isocyanates and solvents and are suitable for a wide range of interior and exterior applications. They adhere excellently to a wide variety of substrates, even without primer, and are flexible and UV-resistant.
- Acetate-curing silicone (SCIBO SEAL S3XX) A silicone sealant that hardens by splitting off acetic acid. These silicones adhere well to glass and ceramics, but are not suitable for all metals. They are ideal for sanitary applications as they are highly resistant to mould.
- Neutral curing silicone (SCIBO SEAL S1XX) Silicone sealants that cure without acid formation and can therefore also be used on sensitive surfaces such as metals. They are versatile and suitable for construction applications, window and façade seals.
- Alcoxy-curing silicone (SCIBO SEAL S7XX) A special type of neutral-curing silicone sealant that cures by an alcoxy reaction. These sealants offer excellent adhesion to a wide range of surfaces and are particularly suitable for construction applications where high weather resistance and strong adhesion to sensitive surfaces are required.
- Acrylic sealant (SCIBO SEAL AC) A water-based sealant that is used particularly indoors. It can be painted over and is suitable for joints with little movement. Acrylic sealants are low-odour and easy to apply, making them ideal for interior work. One example is the acrylic sealant Primur from Siga, which is particularly well known for the airtight bonding of building connections.
- Polyurethane sealant (SCIBO SEAL PU) A one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane sealant that offers excellent adhesion to many building substrates such as concrete, wood and metal. SCIBO SEAL PU is characterised by high elasticity, mechanical strength and resistance to weathering, making it ideal for indoor and outdoor applications, especially for joints and connections subject to dynamic loads.
- Acrylic sealant for facades (SCIBO SEAL AC) SCIBO SEAL AC is a high-quality, permanently elastic acrylic-based sealant that has been specially developed for use in façade construction. It adheres very well to porous substrates such as concrete and masonry, can be painted over and is resistant to UV radiation and weathering. This makes it particularly suitable for external joints with moderate expansion and for connection joints in the construction industry.
SCIBO COAT - Coatings
- UV resistanceThe ability of a material to withstand sunlight without discolouration or damage. UV-resistant coatings are ideal for outdoor applications.
- Abrasion resistanceThe resistance of a material to mechanical abrasion or wear. This is particularly important for floor coatings and heavily used surfaces.
- Layer thicknessThe thickness of the applied coating layer, measured in micrometres. The layer thickness influences the protective effect and resistance of the coating.
SCIBO INSULATE (FOAM) - Insulation
- PU construction foams (SCIBO FOAM) Polyurethane-based construction foams are used to fill, insulate and insulate cavities. There are different fire protection classes:
- B1Flame retardant, for applications where increased fire protection is required.
- B2Normally flammable, suitable for general building applications.
- B3Highly flammable, only permitted for special applications.
- High YieldFoams with high yields that can fill larger cavities and require less material.
- Insulation layer A layer that is applied to reduce heat transfer between two areas and thus minimise energy losses.
- Sound insulation The ability of a material to absorb or block sound waves. Sound-insulated joints reduce noise pollution in buildings.
- Thermal conductivity A measure of how well a material conducts heat. Low thermal conductivity means better insulation and lower energy losses.
SCIBO BOND - Adhesives
- Cyanoacrylate adhesive (SCIBO BOND CA) SCIBO BOND CA is a fast, one-component cyanoacrylate-based instant adhesive. It is ideal for spot bonding where fast fixation is required. SCIBO BOND CA offers very high initial adhesion to many different materials such as metal, glass, ceramics and plastics. Ideal for applications that require fast and reliable bonding, for example in modelling, electronics and repair work.
- Polyurethane adhesive (PU adhesive) (SCIBO BOND PU) A strong, one-component, polyurethane-based adhesive known for its high strength and flexibility. PU adhesives cure through moisture and are ideal for structural bonding and demanding applications that require a strong but flexible bond. They offer excellent adhesion to various substrates such as wood, metal, concrete and plastic, making them versatile. Particularly suitable for vehicle and boat building, the construction industry and other industrial applications.
- 2-component polyurethane adhesive (SCIBO BOND PU DUO) A high-performance 2-component polyurethane-based adhesive consisting of two components that must be mixed before use. SCIBO BOND PU DUO is characterised by its high mechanical strength and excellent adhesion to various materials. Ideal for structural bonding requiring a strong and durable bond, such as in metal construction, sandwich panels and vehicle construction.
- MS adhesives (SCIBO BOND MS) MS adhesives are based on modified silane polymers and combine the advantages of silicone and polyurethane adhesives. They are flexible, environmentally friendly, isocyanate-free and offer strong adhesion to a wide variety of substrates. SCIBO BOND MS is ideal for applications that require a durable and weather-resistant bond, both indoors and outdoors.
SCIBO AERO - Aerosols
SCIBO AERO comprises a range of aerosol products specially developed for the maintenance, cleaning and protection of materials. These products offer easy and precise application, even in hard-to-reach areas, and ensure high effectiveness in a wide range of applications. Typical applications include lubricating moving parts, cleaning electrical contacts, loosening rust and protecting against corrosion. SCIBO AERO products are characterised by their versatility and efficiency to meet the professional requirements of craftsmen and industrial customers.
